Joined Magic Box

So, a week ago (Oct. 15) I joined the Magic Box, which is an online art course by Chris Oatley, who was a character artist for Disney for several years. You can find it at chrisoatley.com. It's not free, but it is very affordable and very flexible. I'm still working on the sketches for the first assignment, but I will post sketches and progress. I signed up for an "imgur" account on which to host my pics for the forum there since that's how they roll. It lets you host your images externally. Looking forward to sharing!

Greatly appreciate it!

I recently asked several questions of artist Noah Bradley (noahbradley.com) and he was kind enough to take time to respond to them.
Thanks, Noah!

Inspired by a favorite book...

This is the first of several pieces I am working on as a homage to one of my favorite book series: Dune, by Frank Herbert. I drew the initial sketches while on vacation recently in New Mexico and Arizona. These are not based on the movie. They are based on my own imagination while reading / listening to the audio book. The first one that I'm going to post is of Paul Atreides before he gained the totally blue eyes he had later on Arrakis; Paul as a teenager on Caladan.

This is also an attempt to force myself to get over my tendency towards perfectionism. There are quite a few things I'd change with this, but I'm going to call it good and continue to work on improving.

I'm back... finally.

Well it took awhile, but I'm back. Took some time to work on doing some writing. That was interesting but not as fruitful as I'd hoped. But I still had a good time and learned a lot. Have returned to drawing and although I don't have a lot that I think is worth posting yet, I wanted to put at least one new thing up to start. Maybe I will get back into the 3D again eventually but for now I want to tackle one thing at a time and that one thing is going to be 2D drawing / digital painting. I have a ton of blank paper to go through and a lot of pencils, so I won't run out of things to draw with anytime soon.

I got myself Alias Sketchbook Pro 6 and have really been enjoying that. It's fairly easy to use and really is very responsive. Not a salesman or anything. Just saying.

Well, maybe there will be more later today, but for now, here is my one cartoony sort of fellow, who makes me think of Don Quixote, except without all his gear.
